On October 10, 2023, Russian forces launched large-scale assault operations aimed at surrounding Avdiivka.

During four months of active fighting, the enemy lost over 45,000 soldiers and hundreds of pieces of armored vehicles due to injuries and fatalities. Throughout this time, alongside the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other Defense Forces, Ukrainian border guards fought for the city. They only left their positions on February 17, 2024, following the relevant command.
